Inpatient Medical Services (IMS) is a premier provider of 24/7 hospitalist and post-acute care physician services including transitional and complex care management. Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, Inpatient Medical Services built its reputation for excellence through long-term continuing partnerships with some of the top healthcare systems in Northeast Ohio and is expanding throughout the Midwest.

Where We Started

Primary care physicians have always faced a challenge: providing superior care for both office patients and patients hospitalized with complex illnesses. In 1997, six physicians answered the challenge with the first dedicated hospitalist medicine private practice in Northeast Ohio. Serving physicians referring to Akron City and St. Thomas Hospitals, Summa Internal Medicine Services (SIMS) became Inpatient Medical Services in 2000 to reflect our expanding regional networks of primary care physicians and hospitals. In October 2012 IMS joined the Sverica International Management LLC family of companies.

Inpatient Medical Services served over 300,000 patient encounters in 2015 and has built a premier reputation for medical excellence with the hospitals, acute care facilities and community physicians who rely on Inpatient Medical Services as their medical services partner. From our roots in hospitalist medicine, we’ve grown today to helping our partners manage the full continuum of patient care, wherever it is needed.
